The Fletcher Trust Collection at Aotearoa’s Government Houses
Introduction
For several years now, the official residences of the Governor-General of Aotearoa New Zealand, Government House Wellington and Government House Auckland, have played host to a selection of taonga from the Fletcher Trust Collection. The works span the period of colonisation to the mid-1980s, and emphasise questions of identity and place.
There are topographical images relating to the areas of Tāmaki Makaurau and Te Whanganui-a-Tara, portraits of rangatira, and works by key women artists. Treasures from other collections, including that of the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa, add further texture.
