This work comes from Hanly’s Condition series and was first shown in 1976. In such works, the artist moved away from the figurative to a form of abstraction expressive of moments of sharply intense emotional experience. This painting was first shown at RKS Art (the gallery of Rodney Kirk Smith) in Tāmaki Makaurau. The exhibition was subtitled Rejoice in All Things.
