New Waikato Winter

In 1966, Ted Bracey moved to the Waikato to take up a position at Hamilton Teachers’ College, and he became inspired by his rural surroundings. Works like New Waikato Winter show his interest in the calligraphy of the landscape; not the shapes of the landforms but the marks made on them by their inhabitants. Other examples of his work from the period include Winter horizon 3 (1968), at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki (1968/30/1), and Transition no. 6 (1969), in the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa (1975-0006-1).
