Born in Nelson, Jane Evans studied at Ilam School of Art, University of Canterbury in 1965 and the following year at Waltham Forest School of Art, London. During 1966–67 she travelled extensively in Europe and later to the Bahamas, living in Australia during 1973. In 1975 she returned to live in Nelson where she has remained. The highly coloured, fluid watercolours in which she specialises have been widely exhibited in galleries throughout New Zealand and also in the USA, Hong Kong and Australia.

The Fletcher Trust Collection is one of the largest curated private collections of Aotearoa New Zealand art. The Trust makes works available to the public online as well as via exhibitions initiated by public art institutions and by the Trust itself.
