This work is identified as FH0461 on the Complete Frances Hodgkins website. It was included in an exhibition of the Société Internationale des Aquarellistes at the Galerie Georges Petit in Paris in 1906. The balloon, or ball, at top right has since lost its red colour. The work has therefore also been called Mother and Child.
