APPLE®, Billy;
From the Fletcher Challenge Art Collection
1999
Acrylic on canvas
1530 x 1067mm
From the Fletcher Challenge Art Collection forms part of Apple’s well-known From the Collection series, which began in 1987 with a painting commissioned by the Bank of New Zealand. The series attracted a broad range of corporate, private, and public clients. Each work was commissioned by a collector, whether an individual or a group, operating as a provenance marker, a portrait of the commissioning entity, and a frontispiece to the collection. Apple would incorporate the client’s choice of colours and logos, blending these with his own brand. From the Fletcher Challenge Art Collection captures the identity of the multinational corporation Fletcher Challenge as it was in 1999. The work retains a connection to Fletcher Construction, which continues to make use of the iconic lion’s head logo.
