HANLY, Pat;

Showgirl and Gentlemen

1961
Oil on canvas
1500 x 1000mm

This work was painted while Pat Hanly was in Florence on a British Arts Council scholarship and Italian government scholarship. The figures—freely distorted in scale, colour, and shape—clearly declare his debt to Henri Matisse, Marc Chagall, and especially Francis Bacon.
