1953
Watercolour on paper
575 x 338mm

This painting is of plants in Rita Angus’s mother’s garden at Waikanae. It was formerly in the possession of the artist’s brother. In 1955 the artist exhibited it at a New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts annual exhibition where it bore a price tag of 15 guineas. Whether her brother bought it then or whether it remained unsold and was gifted to him is unknown.

The Fletcher Trust Collection is one of the largest curated private collections of Aotearoa art. The Trust makes works available to the public online as well as via exhibitions initiated by public art institutions and by the Trust itself.
